LEGISLATIVE ISSUES We've fought for decades to ensure women have reproductive rights. But on April 18, 2007, the Supreme Court turned back the clock on women's health and upheld an abortion procedures ban. This decision is not only about rare third-trimester or late-term procedures. It will affect common second-trimester abortion procedures, with no protection for a woman's health. We ask you to join us in continuing the fight. We must move forward. We're asking all of our members to take five minutes during the day to call their Members of Congress and urge them to co-sponsor the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). This is what to do: 1. To find out who your U.S. Representative is, visit www.house.gov. To find out who your senators are, visit www.senate.gov. 2. If possible, please make three separate calls: one to each of your senators and one to your representative. Please say, "I'm calling to urge the Senator (or the Congressman/Congresswoman) to co-sponsor the Freedom of Choice Act." The Freedom of Choice Act will guarantee reproductive options for future generations of American women. With the Court's decision to uphold the abortion procedures ban, we need the protection of FOCA more than ever before. Your Congressional representatives need to know that people of faith will not quietly allow a basic right to be dismantled and will not allow women to receive substandard healthcare. Urge them to co-sponsor the Freedom of Choice Act. Thank you for keeping the faith for choice.
In Additionally, many faith traditions teach that sexuality is a good part of human creation. Unfortunately, our public policies are often driven by fear and an understanding that sexuality is shameful and should not be discussed openly. In our state, young people are not given the information they need to make healthy decisions about sexuality. A few loud minority voices have dominated the debate about sexuality education in our schools. Parents should have the right to determine which lessons their children will participate in. Parents should be free to remove their children from some lessons, but they should not have the right to determine the lessons in which all children will participate. Please support holistic, realistic sexuality education for our children. It has been proven time and time again that comprehensive sex education and access to family planning significantly reduces unintended pregnancies. Let's be proactive with our State’s precious resources by spending money educating young people about their bodies and providing access to birth control. Let's work for a State where our daughters and sisters, the orphan and the stranger, never have to face the agony of an unintended pregnancy. We encourage you to support legislation that promotes comprehensive sex education, ensures access to comprehensive sexuality education, and seeks to restore the cuts in State family planning money.
Please call your MN legislators and ask them to
