CURRICULUM
A key to reducing abortions is to educate and empower individuals to prevent unwelcome pregnancies. We develop curriculum and promote comprehensive sexuality education in congregations.
Keeping It Real! This is a seven-week, faith-based teen dialogue model on sex and sexuality that provides African American Christian educators, ministry leaders, and youth ministers with a sexuality education model to address teen pregnancy prevention and better provide young men and women with the resources needed to make healthy, responsible decisions as spiritual and sexual beings. Breaking the Silence This five-week, faith-based sexuality curriculum was developed to help local congregations, parents, guardians, and clergy assist teens in making healthy life choices about sex and sexuality. It is designed as a companion to Keeping It Real! and helps develop a greater level of comfort for adults talking about sex with teens.
For more information about using Keeping It Real! or Breaking the Silence locally, please e-mail the Minnesota Coalition at info[at]mnrcrc.org. Faith and Choices Faith & Choices provides an opportunity to increase dialogue about morality, faith, and reproductive choice. The curriculum is meant to accompany the denomination-specific Faith & Choices Action Kits. The Action Kits, developed by the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, provide a large number of resources: denominational statements about reproductive choice, sample sermons and testimonies before congress, relevant scripture passages. The curriculum helps to bring those resources to life in the context of group discussion. Participants will gain an understanding that many religious denominations developed pro-choice position statements before abortion was legal in the This four-lesson reproductive choice curriculum helps religious congregations facilitate a broader conversation about reproductive choice, helps people clarify their own beliefs in relation to their faith tradition, and empowers people to work for reproductive justice. Please visit our events to find out more about upcoming Faith and Choices training sessions. If you would like to learn more about this curriculum or if you are interested in implementing it in your congregation or community, please contact outreach[at]mnrcrc.org. Our Whole Lives Our Whole Lives is a series of sexuality education programs for four age groups: grades K-1, grades 4-6, grades 7-9 and grades 10-12. Written by professional sexuality educators, the programs provide accurate information for parents, teachers and pastors to use with children and young people to help them learn about sexuality in the affirming and supportive setting of our churches. The MN Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, the MN Conference United Church of Christ, and the Prairie Star District Unitarian Universalist Association are collaborating to offer training for adults who want to teach comprehensive sexuality education in their congregations. Please visit our events (insert link) to find out more about upcoming Our Whole Lives training sessions. Call (612) 870-0974 or email outreach[at]mnrcrc.org for more information. To learn more about this curriculum, please visit the United Church of Christ website. We also have a 50-page annotated bibliography of all Faith-Based sexuality curricula. If you are interested in learning more about other faith-based sexuality curricula, please email outreach[at]mnrcrc.org. | |||||
