ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Each year, we are doing more to promote comprehensive sexuality education in congregations. Our Keeping It Real! program is successfully being implemented in many Minnesota African American Churches, and in October 2006, we trained 47 people to teach the Our Whole Lives sexuality curriculum. This is a vital ministry for congregations at a time when schools are becoming more constrained in what content they can teach. Young people need accurate information about their bodies and a safe space for exploring values and practicing decisions.

The MN Religious Coalition continues to be a strong religious voice within the pro-choice community. We are a member of many pro-choice coalitions, and this year we will co-sponsor NARAL’s Reproductive Choice Day at the capitol.

Every year, we lead All Options Clergy Counseling training sessions, preparing clergy to offer counseling and support to women and couples experiencing unwanted or problem pregnancies. In 2006, we developed the new curriculum, Faith and Choices, which allows congregations to have respectful conversations about reproductive choice.

We organize college students to speak out for religious freedom. We spread the word that religious people are pro-choice through speaking engagements, workshops and displays at conferences, written articles and advertising campaigns. We train clergy available to testify at the legislature on birth control, sexuality education and abortion rights, and we add a religious perspective to coalitions that focus on pro-choice advocacy and sexuality education.
