ABOUT US
We are an affiliate of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. We believe that every woman should be free to make decisions about having children according to her own conscience and religious beliefs. We believe that the key to reducing abortions is to educate and empower individuals to prevent unwelcome pregnancies. We oppose efforts to establish by law one religious perspective on reproductive choice above all others and thereby limit the free exercise of religion by all. We define reproductive choice in the broadest possible sense. Although the widely understood definition of “choice” applies to abortion, we believe that reproductive choice encompasses the many choices that people make about how and whether to become parents. Therefore, we faithfully support comprehensive sexuality education, family planning, contraception, and other reproductive health services, as well as maintaining that abortion can be a morally responsible choice. We also support living wage jobs, affordable housing and child care, and access to health care as vital services that empower women who would like to become parents.
Our work includes:
Public Education We provide speakers on the topic of reproductive choice, abortion rights, and freedom of religion for churches, synagogues, schools and community organizations. We train religious workers to be advocates for reproductive choice in their communities. Our newsletter is sent to members, supporters, media sources and elected officials. We write letters to the editor, op-ed pieces, and magazine articles for publications all over the state. Sexuality Education We recruit churches to use the culturally and religiously appropriate sexuality education curriculums Keeping It Real! for teens and Breaking the Silence for parents in the African American Community. We also promote the use of the Our Whole Lives curriculum, which was created jointly by the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ. Our Whole Lives is offered for five age groups: grades K-1, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, and adult. Counseling Women and couples experiencing an unwelcome or problem pregnancy can receive counseling and honest information from pro-choice clergy through our All Options Clergy Counseling Service. Networking MN Religious Coalition is a strong religious voice within the pro-choice community. We work with other pro-choice organizations to ensure reproductive options and access to safe and legal abortions. We educate and mobilize the religious community to create a public opinion climate that is conducive to pro-choice policy making. | |||||
